With the 2025 Women's Basketball Africa League (WBLA) approaching in a few weeks, many of Africa's top clubs are updating their rosters for the eagerly anticipated tournament. Among them is ASC Ville de Dakar (ASVD), Senegal's reigning Division 1 Féminin champions, which recently announced the signings of guards Aliyah Matharu and Amarah Coleman.
Matharu arrives as a dynamic two-way guard, showcasing production previously seen with Northern Kāhu in New Zealand's Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa. Whilst down under, Matharu averaged 12 points, three rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.5 steals.
The guard also ranked among the league's top ten performers defensively while finishing third on her team's scoring chart. The Baylor University product enters her second professional season, carrying a valuable collegiate pedigree, earning All-Big Twelve Honourable Mention recognition in 2022, reinforcing her status as an accomplished scoring threat today.

Amarah Coleman, selected 28th overall by the Chicago Sky in the 3rd round of the 2018 WNBA Draft (WNBA) brings elite experience and extensive stints in some of the most competitive leagues in the world. She recorded 21 points, eight rebounds, and 4.7 assists during an impressive stint in Mongolia's MBL.
During her Turkish TKBL campaign, the two-way guard posted 21 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals, demonstrating sustained offensive and sharp defensive reliability.
While competing in Spain's LF Endesa, widely considered one of the top three best women's leagues in the world, Coleman averaged 10 points, three rebounds, and two assists while providing defensive impact in Spain.
Matharu's scoring instincts will complement Coleman's seasoned leadership as they enter demanding competition, with both guards injecting equal amounts of creativity and defensive toughness.
Coleman's versatility on both sides of the ball positions Dakar as one of the clubs to watch in the upcoming Women's Basketball Africa League. The Senegalese giants will expect both guards to elevate tempo, create mismatches, and anchor decisive moments throughout their tournament run.
ASVD, who recently defeated Kriol Star 68-42 and crushed Fireball 124-31 during the qualification campaign, are clearly aiming for a deeper run in the WBLA this December. This comes after their disappointing 2024 campaign, in which they finished fourth overall after a narrow 65-64 loss to Al Ahly Sporting Club in the semi-finals.
