During the Sahara Conference in Dakar, the Hoopers showcased their immense potential by topping their group. However, they stumbled on the final day, losing to Monastir and then to AS Douanes of Senegal in the playoffs (63-57). This added extra significance to their quarter-final clash against US Monastir.
The game began with Rivers Hoopers leading for most of the first quarter, only to see Monastir snatch a one-point lead (21-20) by the end of the period. The second quarter was tightly contested, with Perry boosting the Hoopers by hitting two consecutive three-pointers. By halftime, the Nigerian team had a slim five-point lead (45-40).
The third quarter was fiercely competitive, with both teams utilising fast breaks to stay neck and neck. Rivers Hoopers extended their lead to six points by the end of the third period.
