Former London Lions and Nigeria national team guard Miye Oni has agreed to terms with Libyan giants Ahly Benghazi, following his stint in Puerto Rico's BSN League, where he averaged 12.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game. The move completes a trifecta of huge signings from the club.

Shortly before Adam Silver stole all of the Basketball Africa League headlines, Libyan basketball had the BAL news in a chokehold. Initially, it was due to 2025 Basketball Africa League champions Alahli SC beating Flamengo 91-82 to win bronze at the 2025 FIBA Intercontinental Cup.
However, things soon changed as their league rivals Ahly Benghazi announced the back-to-back signing of star players Johnathan Jordan and Chudier Bile from the Congo CR national team. The Butchers have now completed this trifecta with the announcement that they have agreed terms with 2019 NBA Draft pick, Miye Oni.
The highly skilled two-way guard, born Olumiye Dimolu Oni, is coming off a statistically successful season in Puerto Rico's Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) League, where he averaged 12.8 points, seven rebounds, and 7.2 assists while playing for Criollos de Caguas. Before that, he had a troublesome stint in Spain's Liga Endesa (ACB), where, during a ten-game run, he averaged only 1.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, and one assist per game.
Besides the fact that he had limited opportunities in the NBA and the G-League, the former Yale University standout also enjoyed a successful season (2022/23) in the UK (where his father was born) playing for the London Lions. During this period, he averaged 7.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game in the domestic British Basketball League season, and 10.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists during the BKT EuroCup campaign.
Ahly Benghazi's move to sign Oni now places them among the favourites to dominate the Libyan Basketball League and/or the Basketball Africa League, depending on which league he has signed on to play in.
Oni last played for the Nigeria national team in 2021, during the Tokyo Olympics, where he averaged 6.7 points, two rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. Now that he is playing in Africa (and possibly the BAL), this may open the door for the guard to return to the national team setup for the forthcoming FIBA Men's World Cup qualifiers.
