Cyrille Damango, president of Bangui Sporting Club, has announced his ambition to lead the Central African Basketball Federation (FCBB), presenting himself as a candidate in the upcoming elections scheduled for the 30th and 31st of October 2025. Drawing on his experience at the helm of one of the nation’s most successful clubs, Damango says he wants to bring transparent management, professional structures, and renewed ambition to Central African basketball.
Damango points to his tenure at Bangui SC as evidence of his management approach. Under his leadership, the club qualified for the Basketball Africa League (BAL), a milestone that stressed the importance of financial discipline, organizational rigour, and long-term planning. He argues that the same principles of accountability and preparation can guide the Federation and its national teams toward consistent success.
"My long-term vision is to make the Central African Republic a leading nation in African basketball."
His stated objective is to re-establish the Central African Republic as a leading basketball nation on the continent. Damango’s plan involves ensuring regular appearances by both men’s and women’s national teams in the final stages of African championships. At the same time, he seeks to strengthen the domestic league, creating an environment that retains local talent and develops players for international competition.
Damango’s program outlines a three-pillar strategy for youth development: reviving school and university basketball in partnership with the Ministry of Education, implementing certification programs for youth coaches in collaboration with FIBA Africa, and establishing a network of development centres nationwide. Each center would combine athletic training with academic education to provide a balanced pathway from grassroots to professional basketball.
Improving infrastructure is another key component of his platform. Damango proposes rehabilitating existing courts and building modular multi-sport halls in provincial capitals through public-private partnerships and development aid. Financially, he plans to diversify revenue streams with sponsorships, fundraising initiatives, and the creation of a basketball foundation. On the organizational side, he intends to professionalize the national league by implementing a fixed calendar, establishing clear contractual frameworks for players, and implementing more effective marketing and media strategies.
Damango highlights Bangui SC’s BAL experience as an example of international exposure that can benefit the entire basketball community. His proposals include institutionalizing Central African participation in continental competitions, seeking partnerships with foreign federations and clubs, and organizing international friendly games for the national teams. He also emphasizes the importance of communication and media engagement as tools to inspire younger generations and restore national pride.
With his track record at Bangui Sporting Club and a detailed roadmap for reform, Damango positions himself as a candidate aiming to translate club-level achievements into national progress.
