In what was a historic first-ever outing for the Cameroon U16 Boys national team in the U16 Afrobasket Qualifiers, the young Lions delivered an electrifying performance, overpowering the Central African Republic with a commanding 84-57 victory. The game kicked off with high intensity, and both teams were battling fiercely in the first quarter, treating spectators to a thrilling back-and-forth exchange.
The Central African squad showed remarkable resilience early on, keeping pace with Cameroon’s aggressive offense. The opening quarter was a true show of talent and energy from both sides. However, Cameroon had begun to pull away by halftime, leading 46-29 despite showing signs of inconsistency on both ends of the court.
Everything changed after the break. Reinvigorated and more organized, the Cameroonian boys returned from the locker room with renewed focus. Forward Luther Maboula led the charge and delivered a standout performance, recording a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. His presence in the paint and ability to finish plays gave Cameroon a firm grip on the game.
Also making a major impact was skilled point guard Nolan Ngangmeni, who contributed 16 points. He used his quickness and court vision to break through the Central African defense. Felix Deum and Marvyn Bidjel added to the scoring spree, each dropping 15 points, helping to secure Cameroon’s dominance in the second half.
On the Central African side, Bienvenue Gbangandimbo stood out with an impressive 27-point performance. His individual brilliance, however, was not enough to stop the momentum of Coach Augustin Mouelle’s squad, who displayed depth, teamwork, and poise as the game progressed.
The final buzzer confirmed Cameroon’s emphatic 84-57 victory, marking a promising start to their journey in international competition. With a mix of talent, athleticism, and coaching leadership, the future looks bright for Cameroon’s rising basketball stars.
