FUS Rabat’s Abdoulaye Harouna has made BAL history yet in the most understated way imaginable. In today’s sports world, where athletes relentlessly chase numbers and milestones, few remain unbothered by stats. Harouna firmly belongs to that rare group.
On Friday night, as FUS Rabat cruised to an emphatic 85–55 win over JCA Kings, Harouna quietly crossed a historic threshold, becoming the *first player in Basketball Africa League history to reach 500 career points*. The twist? He had no idea he was even close.
Harouna entered the game sitting on 490 points across six BAL seasons. His 16-point performance executed in an efficient, composed, and impactful manner was enough to etch his name into the league’s record books.
"I didn't know about this significant record," Harouna said in an exclusive interview with AfricaBasket adding, "I was only told after the game that I had scored more than 500 points in the BAL," he said, smiling without specifically celebrating this achievement.

"Throughout my career as a player I've really never cared for stats. I know records in sports are important but when I play, my prime goal is to ensure that I can help those around me play well and push our teams to victory. That's what matters most to me," Harouna highlighted.
At 34, the Nigerien shooting guard emphasized that the milestone is still meaningful, less as a number, more as a reflection of his journey.
"I think that in a way this is a blessing because it also shows the work I put into my craft and the passion that I carry going into every game or season of the BAL."
A former player for AS FAP, AS Salé, ABC Fighters, and AS Douanes, Harouna’s career has been built on consistency and resilience. Now with FUS Rabat, he continues to live out a lifelong dream.
"I'm grateful that I can play basketball today because I always wanted to do this. My uncle played basketball at a top level and my aunt played basketball as well, representing the Niger national team. They inspired me and I'm glad that I can do that today."
Despite leading the BAL in steals in 2024 and earning a spot on the All-BAL Defensive First Team that same year, Harouna isn’t focused on records. His attention is firmly on helping FUS Rabat secure a place in the 2026 BAL Playoffs.
Interestingly, Harouna’s historic moment almost overshadowed another milestone on the same night.

While he was being celebrated, JCA Kings guard Chris Crawford also crossed the 500-point mark in the BAL.
Asked whether he was aware of his achievement, Crawford responded with a brief smile:
"Yes I did? Oh that's great," he said, before walking out of the press conference room, leaving many wondering if, given the chance, he would have traded the milestone for a team victory.
