BAL and Wave Côte d’Ivoire Unveil New Yopougon Court as Grassroots Basketball Push Accelerates

The Basketball Africa League and Wave Côte d'Ivoire, one of Africa's fastest-growing mobile networks, have finally unveiled their renovated basketball court at the historic Four Baskets site.

Senior Executives from both organisations highlighted the project's role in expanding community access and strengthening NBA Africa's decade-long court initiative. Supporters in Yopougon welcomed the upgrade, which signalled meaningful investment in the region's grassroots basketball infrastructure.

Wave Côte d'Ivoire executive Katier Bamba joined BAL operations chief Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje to reveal the refurbished space. Guests watched young hoopers celebrate the moment during a clinic featuring fifty boys and girls representing nearby schools.

“The renovation of this court reflects our commitment to working with partners like Wave to empower the youth of Africa,” said Boumtje-Boumtje.

“Over the past year, our joint efforts with Wave, including hosting tournaments and creating safe spaces for young boys and girls to learn and play the game, will leave a lasting and meaningful impact in communities across Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal.”

“Taking part in the project of renovation of this basketball court alongside the BAL reflects Wave's mission to support and invest in the communities we serve,” said Bamba.

Basketball is a powerful force for connecting communities, and we are proud to contribute to the creation of modern, accessible spaces where young people can learn, play, and thrive. This project is not just about renovating a court, but also about building confidence and inspiring the next generation for an even stronger Côte d'Ivoire tomorrow.”

Following the unveiling, a U23 3X3 tournament took place, bringing together male and female hoopers from across the region, reinforcing the importance of community facilities as vital pillars of African basketball culture.

The partnership between BAL and Wave tipped off earlier this year, in March, with several bold ambitions to continue basketball not only in the region but throughout the country.

Their groundbreaking union has thus far delivered some of the most highly competitive regional tournaments in Abidjan and Dakar, featuring CAF prizes worth one million for winning teams.
