Al Ahly Sporting Club stayed perfect in the WBLA, dominating Sporting Clube de Luanda 86–65 behind Hagar Amer’s 25-point, 15-rebound comeback, with Nadine Mohamed and Raneem Elgedawy adding 15 each to secure a commanding third consecutive victory.

The home-city favourites, Al Ahly Sporting Club, remain flawless in the group stage of the 2025 FIBA Women Basketball League Africa after overpowering Sporting Clube de Luanda 86–65 in a commanding display.
The Cairo-based club set the tone early, opening with a convincing 24–12 first quarter and never relenting, quarter scores read 24-19-19-24 for Al Ahly vs 12-22-16-15 for their Angolan opponents.
After months away, even missing the recent 2025 AfroBasket Women, the return of Hagar Amer proved a masterstroke. She erupted for what appears to be a stellar double-double (reportedly 25 points and 15 rebounds) and drove Al Ahly’s dominance on both ends of the floor.
Her efficiency score of 39 placed her among the top performers in the game, sparking energy, second-chance points, and defensive resilience.
Although the publicly available boxscore highlights Amer as the game leader in “efficiency, points, rebounds”, it doesn’t break down the exact 25-point/15-rebound line. Still, match reports and commentary emphasise her star turn and clear influence over the contest.
Amer didn’t carry Al Ahly alone. Raneem Elgedawy and Nadine Mohamed added weight to the offence, each contributing 15 points on top of Amer’s big night, a balanced attack that proved too much for Sporting Clube’s defence. The scoring spread underscored the depth and cohesion of the Egyptian side.
Their collective performance allowed Al Ahly to stay aggressive, maintain rhythm, and prevent any serious Luandan comeback, even as Sporting Clube tried to hang on after the second quarter.

For Sporting Clube, the night belonged to Nelma Cunha, who scored 21 points, and Eleuteria Lhavanguane, who added 16. Their effort kept the Angolan side competitive early and prevented the game from turning into a blowout, but the gap in depth and execution was too significant to overcome. Even with their best players delivering, the overall team output wasn’t enough to counter Al Ahly’s rhythm and collective firepower.
With this third straight victory in the group stage, Al Ahly not only stamp their ambition for WBLA 2025 glory but also send a clear message: their roster depth and resilience, bolstered by the return of seasoned players like Hagar Amer, make them a serious title contender. Their balanced attack and ability to control tempo, from a 12-point opening quarter to a 21-point halftime lead, show they are executing their game plan nearly flawlessly.
We missed a lot of shots that we normally make we continued to fight and try to get it back on defense and stick together

On the flip side, Sporting Clube de Luanda’s performance did offer hints of potential: Cunha and Lhavanguane showed they can score under pressure. But for now, the challenge lies in building the kind of collective cohesion and defensive grit that can match a powerhouse like Al Ahly.
As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on Amer. If she stays healthy and maintains this momentum, and if her teammates continue contributing consistently, Al Ahly could very well run through the group stage unbeaten. But expectations will rise, and the pressure to deliver — quarter after quarter, game after game will only grow.
Al Ahly’s 86-65 win is not just another group-stage victory. It is a statement: they are here to win, and with Amer’s comeback adding thrust, they might just do it in emphatic fashion.
