The Sports Minister of Ghana, Kofi Adams, visited the 2025 Accra Basketball League (ABL), champions, the Spintex Knights, last week, pledging the full support of his ministry and the government as the team prepares to represent Ghana in the upcoming Road to BAL 2026 Qualification tournament.

During his visit to the team, Minister Adams commended the Knights for their consistent excellence, highlighting their three-year dominance of the local league as evidence of a positive culture within the club.

"It gives me joy that what we describe as the least financed sport is getting some attention at some level," Adams stated. "This will serve as a motivation to encourage many other clubs to also stay up their performance."

The Minister used the occasion to reaffirm his broader policy of equitable support for all sporting disciplines, directly addressing the historical dominance of football in national sports funding.

"I made it very clear that I was not going to be a minister for football. I'm going to minister for sports and in addition recreation," he asserted. "So every sport must feel big. Yes, investment may be heavier on some than others but it doesn't mean that we must not give attention to all the sports."

Adams highlighted basketball as a strategic sport that provides plenty of opportunities for Ghanaian youths.

"Basketball is one area where the potential is big. It opens so many doors for the young ones. It is not a recreational sport but an elite sport that is worth investing in."

As regards their campaign on the continent, the Minister gave a firm commitment.

"So the ministry will work shoulder to shoulder with the Federation and Spintex Knights to make sure that they also continue to grow and represent the country well at the club level."

The Accra-based club's opening Road to BAL 2026 game tips off this Friday, October 17th at 20:00 [WAT/GMT] against Jeunesse Club d'Abidjan (JCA) at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Côte d'Ivoire.
