This week's FIBA Africa Zone 7 Updates send us to Madagascar, where the N1A championship is underway and GNBC and MB2All are sending out clear messages about their intentions for the coming championships. In Mauritius, 17 persons from seven regional committees have expressed their desire to be part of the next managing committee, while Comoros are yet to decide who will be their flag-bearer at this year's Road to BAL.

Two clubs are vying for the only ticket that will go to the Comoros representative for the 2024 edition of the Road to BAL. Ushindzi Club de Ouani, the 2023 Comoros champions and two-time winners of the Federation Cup (2023, 2024), are competing with Djabal Basket Iconi, winners of the 2024 MVola Cup, for the right to represent the country at this FIBA Africa competition. For the time being, everything seems to indicate that it will be Ushindzi who will fly the Union colours. If Ushindzi withdraws, Djabal BasketIconi will take over.
Big favorites to retain their title, Gendarmerie Nationale Basket Club (GNBC) recorded their second consecutive victory in the Madagascar N1 A championship. Elly Randriamampionona's team dominated BCB de Boeny 71-56. With four points on the board, the Gendarmes have temporarily caught up with ASCUT and COSPN at the top of the standings. ASCUT, from Tamatave and current runners-up, triumphed over NGB Itasy 59-43, while COSPN beat SCB Antsirabe 76-65.
On the women's side, the MB2ALL players continued to impress with another dazzling performance. The team, led by Muriel, moved to the top of the table after inflicting a severe defeat on Ankaratra, beating them 90-40. For their part, the GNBC women's team also performed brilliantly, beating the USJFM of Atsimo-Andrefana 114-16.
There will be new blood at the helm of the Mauritius Basketball Federation. That is the conclusion to be drawn from the list of candidates published last Friday by the interim committee. Hedley Han, the outgoing president of the MBBF, who caused the dissolution of the managing committee last May, will not be standing as a candidate for his own succession. Instead, 17 members from seven regional committees have applied to sit on the next board. It should also be noted that the three-person interim committee is living out its final days, as elections to form a new committee will be held this Saturday October 5.
