The Egyptian Basketball Federation have appointed Agustí Julbe as the head coach of their senior men's national team, replacing former playcaller Mohamed Elkerdany, who led Egypt to sixth place at FIBA AfroBasket 2025, in Angola.
Julbe began his head coaching career with Fuenlabrada after a long tenure as assistant coach for Joventut Badalona, Barcelona, Baskonia and Anadolu Efes.
Along with his coaching career across Europe, the Catalan native has also built a highly respected career in North Africa, having won several championships with rivals Zamalek and Al Ahly Sporting Club. In 2021, Julbe guided Zamalek to the inaugural Basketball Africa League championship title. Later that year, he joined Al Ahly as head coach, securing the Egyptian Cup and Super League double in his debut season.

The 2022–23 campaign saw Julbe repeat success, winning both the Egyptian Premier League and Cup with Al Ahly once again. In 2023, he claimed his second BAL championship with Al Ahly, becoming the only coach to achieve two BAL titles.
His appointment signals Egypt's ambition to elevate their senior men's team on the continental level, following their disappointing sixth-place finish at FIBA AfroBasket 2025 in Angola. With experience in European and African competitions, Julbe brings strategic acumen, championship pedigree and a proven record of winning titles.

The federation highlighted Julbe's familiarity with Egyptian players, culture, and competitive demands as key factors in his historic appointment.
Egyptian basketball supporters are now eagerly anticipating Julbe's first training camp and strategic moves ahead of the FIBA 2026 World Cup African qualifiers in February.
