CNSS Begin Campaign in Style with Dominant Win over Overdose Up Station

The host team, CNSS, made a statement in their opening game of the 2025 Women's Basketball Africa League (WBLA) Qualifiers, overpowering Cameroon’s Overdose Up 78–59 with a strong performance that spoke volumes about their overall offensive depth. CNSS displayed their intent to qualify for the WBLA tournament with a commanding home victory.

From the tip-off, CNSS controlled the tempo and dictated the flow of the game. They exploded out of the gate, taking the first quarter 26–11 before extending their lead to 46–25 by halftime. Their fluid ball movement, aggressive defence, and efficient shooting left Overdose struggling to find rhythm. The hosts’ energy and discipline in the opening half set the tone for what looked to be a one-sided contest.

However, the visitors from Cameroon refused to fold. Overdose Up Station regrouped impressively after the break, tightening their defence and outscoring CNSS 19–4 in the third quarter. Their spirited run cut the gap to just six points, putting real pressure on the Congolese side and reigniting the contest.

But CNSS quickly regained their composure. Led by their experienced core, they stormed back in the final period, reclaiming control with a 28–15 fourth-quarter surge that silenced any doubts. Their ability to bounce back under pressure was a testament to both their maturity and depth.

Marlène Ngobeleza led the charge with 21 points, including three shots from beyond the arc, while forward Gracia Nguz added 11 points and nine rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double. Off the bench, Noemie Ayenga provided a massive boost with 11 points and eight boards. Point guard Ketia Mbelu orchestrated the offence masterfully, tallying nine points and 11 assists while maintaining perfect accuracy from the free-throw line.

For Overdose Up Station, standout efforts came from Audrey Batchaya, who posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Sema Ekah, who poured in 17 points. Despite their efforts, the Cameroonian side lacked the cohesion to sustain their comeback.

The result leaves Overdose in a must-win situation ahead of their crucial clash with ASB Makomeno, while CNSS will look to build on their strong start and continue their push toward WBLA contention.
