Well before the tip-off, the pressure was on AS Douanes to win the game and not return to Ouagadougou winless. With that determination, they got off to a 4-0 start. During this spell, they played good team defence and left it all on the court. However, one can never count out Al Ahly as they responded with the first three-pointer of the game.
Franck Ouedraogo scored a three-pointer to spark a 9-0 run for AS Douanes. Chudier Bile had other plans in mind as he drew a foul and converted both free throws to break this AS Douane momentum and wave of attack. The game began to pick up speed as Miye Oni rattled the rim with his emphatic dunk, which Brendan Frazier followed up. Despite this, AS Douanes kept a 24-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter got off to a very slow start. Both teams scored one fastbreak layup, respectively, before going three minutes in a deadlock. Adrees Zeew was able to break the deadlock and score a wide-open layup under the basket.
Wendeteka Ouedraogo found his range to extend their lead back up to 9 points. However, Al Ahly responded almost immediately to ignite the transition play and a break in momentum for Al Ahly. AS Douanes went into the break trailing 33-29, but they could feel their grip on the game loosen.
Tanguy Camboigo opened the fourth quarter with a four-point play, which he executed to the tee. Following that, the former NBA player, Miye Oni, scored a three-point jumper and ignited an 8-2 run for Al Ahly. There was an electric sequence where Wendeketa Ouedraogo and Asmaeil Aljahmi exchanged three-pointers. Then Chudier Bile and Alassame Bambara did the same, but in the paint.
AS Douanes lost composure, and Al Ahly pounced on the opportunity to take their first lead of the game. They then closed the quarter with back-to-back three-point shots by Sofian Hamad and Brendan Frazier to take a 60-50 lead at the end of the quarter.
Sofian Hamad opened the quarter with six straight points for Al Ahly. However, it was the Miye Oni Show that prompted the AS Douanes timeout. The timeout was beneficial as AS Douanes clawed back in the game to make it a four-point game after being down by 12 points. Hamed Traoré was the catalyst in this run.
The tides began to change when Sofian Hamad scored a three-pointer. This led to a frustrated defensive effort by AS Douanes, who fouled Miye Oni on a layup, and he completed the three-point play. He then went on to close out the quarter with another perfect trip on the charity stripe. Al Ahly complete their campaign with a perfect record of 3-0 and will now prepare for the Elite 16.
Miye Oni recorded 19 points while Sofian Hamad recorded 18 to fuel Al Ahly in this encounter. They have found their rhythm and will look to continue on this path until they return to the BAL.
