Moanda BB hit the ground running with a scintillating performance in their Group C opener at the 2026 Road to BAL, leaving hosts ASB New Generation stunned.
Moanda BB showcased grit, composure, and star power as they outlasted ASB New Generation in a tightly contested game, marking an important step in their campaign on the Road to BAL. The Gabonese side, led by an inspired performance from Cameroonian International Cédric Tsangue, held off a determined Congolese team in front of a passionate Kinshasa crowd.
Tsangue, a Cameroon international and a veteran of the Basketball Africa League with FAP, was instrumental from start to finish. Having played in the Road to BAL with Kadji Sports Academy and Manga Basketball Club, Tsangue is accustomed to competing in the tournament.
He delivered a commanding double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, bringing to the floor his amazing International experience, combining power and efficiency to keep Moanda BB in control during key phases of the game.
Tsangue's shooting was clinical, hitting 6 of his nine field goal attempts and converting 7 of 9 free throws, providing a steadying influence whenever the momentum swung.
Although the opening stages were cautious, with both teams trading short leads, it was Moanda BB who eventually found their rhythm, cruising to an 18-17 lead. Apart from Tsangue, Moanda BB had a trio of top-performing players with Dolivitch Moupoumo scoring 14 points, as Désiré Mouzita added 13 points, while Warene Moundounga-Moumbeki contributed 10 points.
After trailing briefly in the second quarter, a clutch jumper from André Reverend Bonazebi Kiminou, followed by a three-pointer from Désiré Victoire Mouzita Mboukou, ignited an 11–5 surge that flipped the game in the Gabonese team's favour. They entered halftime up 41–35, a lead they would never relinquish.
ASB New Generation remained competitive deep into the second half, with Omari Gudul Mulomba (20 points) and Deo Mwanyimi (18 points) doing much of the damage for the Congolese side.
However, Moanda BB's control in the paint (42 points inside) and their discipline at the free-throw line (20-for-28) ultimately separated them from their opponents.
While Moanda BB's perimeter shooting left room for improvement, just 3-of-14 from beyond the arc, their interior dominance and composure under pressure proved enough to seal the win. The final two quarters were tied with the third quarter ending 19-19, while the last stanza of the game concluded on a 14-14 parity.
However, leadership from Cedric Tsangue and Moanda's collective execution ensured they held on for the win.
Now with one foot in the Elite 16, Moanda BB will look to build on this momentum when they face New Tech Bantou in their next Group C outing in the West Division. Moanda's coach, Johd Masnoudji, knows a second straight victory would likely solidify their place among the top teams in the West Division.
