Over on the Atlantic, Namibia is experiencing a generational transformation within its basketball federation as it prepares to host its first-ever Women's Basketball League Africa Qualifiers. The qualifiers will take place from 6–14 November at the DHPS Center in Windhoek. Participating clubs include Costa do Sol, Dolphins, Sporting de Luanda, Braveheart Women, Montana Vikings and UNAM Phoenix.
The president of the Namibian Basketball Federation, Mr Nigel Mubita, stated they are ready to host and highlighted the importance of great partnerships. In this case, he is referring to First National Bank (FNB) Namibia, one of the biggest commercial banks in Southern Africa. This partnership has helped Namibia not only host major tournaments but also significantly grow the game of basketball nationwide.
Lusaka, Zambia, is preparing to host the men’s FIBA Zone 6 Road to BAL from 22–26 October. The participating teams include Matero Magic, Braveheart, Ferroviario da Beira, JHB Giants, Basket Hounds and Dolphins. The tournament will take place at the NASDEC Center, known for hosting major events like the 2017 AfroBasket Qualifiers.
The top two teams will advance to the Elite 16, keeping their hopes of reaching the Basketball Africa League alive. This qualifier features fierce regional competition, with Ferroviario da Beira being the only team with prior BAL experience. All eyes are on Lusaka as Southern Africa prepares for another thrilling basketball showdown.
