Cameroon Stay Perfect in Group Phase After Dominant Win Over Guinea

Cameroon have maintained their perfect record in the group stage, proving once again that teamwork and discipline can outshine individual brilliance. The Central African side displayed collective efficiency, registering an impressive 21 assists on their way to an 88-57 victory over Guinea, who now find themselves struggling at 0-2 in the competition.

From the opening tip, Cameroon asserted control. Within just five minutes, they built a 12-6 lead, using sharp ball movement and defensive energy to set the tone. By the end of the first quarter, the Indomitable Lions had already carved out a 22-13 advantage, showing early signs of their depth and balance.

However, Guinea refused to fold easily. A quick 12-3 run at the start of the second quarter saw them level the score at 25-25, briefly threatening to swing the momentum. But Cameroon’s composure shone through as they regrouped, reestablished their rhythm, and retook the lead before halftime, going into the break with a narrow three-point cushion.
The second half was where Cameroon truly flexed their dominance.

Outscoring Guinea 31-18 in the third quarter, they tightened their grip on the game. Their defensive rebounding, particularly in the closing minutes, was crucial — grabbing 10 defensive boards in the final stanza effectively shut down Guinea’s attempts to claw back. Meanwhile, their offense was relentless, as they punished Guinea with a 24-9 fourth-quarter run that sealed a commanding 31-point margin of victory.

What made Cameroon’s performance so formidable was their balanced scoring output. Four players finished in double figures, underlining the team’s depth.

Nolan Ngangmeni led the way with a game-high 19 points, adding seven rebounds and four assists. His leadership at point guard ensured Cameroon’s offense ran smoothly throughout. Luther Maboula chipped in 17 points, providing consistent scoring from the wing. Felix Deumi added 14 points, showcasing his versatility. Olivier Ngoumou contributed 12 points, rounding out a well-spread offensive attack.

On the opposite side, Guinea had flashes of resistance but could not match Cameroon’s consistency. Alpha Ousmae Traoré top-scored for them with 14 points, while Massa Pierre Touré and Mohamed Lamine Diaby each recorded 11 points. Despite their efforts, Guinea’s offense struggled to keep pace once Cameroon turned up the intensity.

After the win, Ngangmeni emphasized that it wasn’t just about the box score. “We tried to bring more energy than against Uganda. We were more attentive to the coach’s instructions and trying to find the right shots,” he explained, highlighting the team-first mindset that has fueled Cameroon’s flawless start.

Looking ahead, Cameroon are aware that the real challenge is still to come. Their next matchup is a top-of-the-table clash with Tunisia to decide first place in Group B. It promises to be a test of both mental and physical strength, especially given Tunisia’s own unbeaten run.

Ngangmeni remains focused:

We still need to play Tunisia, and we’ll try to be more aggressive, while also being patient in offense and follow the coach’s instructions. For my part, I will try to bring as much experience as I can and help the team to the best of my abilities.

With this convincing performance, Cameroon not only secured their spot in the Quarter-Finals, but also sent a clear message to the rest of the competition. Their combination of teamwork, depth, and discipline makes them one of the most dangerous teams to watch as the tournament heads into its decisive stages.
