Rwanda Energy Group (REG) tipped off their Africa Women Basketball League campaign with a victory over Overdose Up Station 86-45.
Coach Esperance Mukaneza's players outscored their opponents on all fronts, outscoring the Cameroonian champions 56-21 in the first half, before going on to play 21-14 and 9-10 in the second half for the 41-point victory.
American player Tiffany Mitchell and her WNBA counterpart Nia Clouden led the Rwandan club's attack with a performance of 23 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for Tiffany Mitchell. Clouden, meanwhile, delivered 8 assists, 6 rebounds and 9 points.
Coach Mukaneza believes that the experience the duo have brought to his team, combined with the arrival of Destiny Promise Philoxy, will go a long way to helping the team progress in the competition. "We've got off to a good start and it fits in well with our objectives for the competition. It's a clear message that we're not here to tank, but to fight for the title. We made the three changes with the conviction that they would help us fight for the title and their contribution to today's victory was immense," said coach Mukaneza.
