AfricaBasket's Top 5: Point Guards | Women's Youzou Elite Basketball Championship

Following the success of the first instalment, AfricaBasket's Top 5: Point Guards | Zenith Bank Basketball League, we continue our journey with the Women's Youzou Elite Basketball Championship edition.

Even in this so-called era of positionless basketball, true floor generals still matter - the players who orchestrate, elevate, and redefine what it means to run a team.

Now, we shine a light on five standout point guards whose skill, leadership and impact make them the heartbeat of their squads across Cameroon's premier league.

Our Top 5 Points Guards in the Women's Youzou Elite Basketball Championship

Cameroonian women's basketball is entering a new era. With growing investment, stronger competition, and passionate fanbases, the Women's YOUZOU Elite Basketball Championship has quickly become one of Central Africa's most exciting professional leagues.

While many eyes focus on scoring leaders and star forwards, the real heartbeat of every great team lies in the backcourt, with the aforementioned point guards. They are the architects of offence, the voices of composure, and the first line of defence.

In the recently concluded 2025 YOUZOU Elite Championship season, these five point gods [Read: Point Gawds] separated themselves from the chasing pack by redefining what it truly means to lead from their clubs.

1. Abada Mvogo (FAP Basketball) | The Commander-In-Chief

When Abada Mvogo steps on the court, FAP Basketball immediately finds its rhythm. She is the team's general organiser, playing a role in organising plays, dictating tempo, and setting the tone with both confidence and calm. Mvogo's participation in the FIBA U18 Women's Afrobasket 2024, where she assisted her nation in clinching the bronze medal, contributed massively to her overall development.

“She’s the kind of player who makes everyone believe they can win,” “Her poise is contagious.” - F.A.P. Head Coach Lonteu Majolie

As a result, this past season saw the skilled playmaker with a raised level of maturity and decision-making, especially in clutch moments. Her passing instincts seem almost telepathic. Whether she's breaking presses, dropping dimes in traffic, or taking charge in crunch time, Mvogo represents the gold standard for point guard leadership in Cameroon. Mvogo’s blend of vision, creativity, and control makes her one of the most complete floor generals in the Women's Youzou Elite Basketball Championship.

2. Tamko Raïssa (Daniel Battiston Foundation) | The Silent Strategist

Composed, calculating, and precise, Tamko Raïssa, who recently laced up for F.A.P. during the Women's Basketball League Africa (WBLA) Qualifiers, was the brains of the starting five for Battiston during the season.

“She’s a chess player in a basketball world,” one opposing coach remarked. “She reads every defence like a book.” - Battiston Head Coach Nadine Se

Her ability to slow the game down, find the right pass, and control tempo has become a defining feature of Battiston's disciplined play style. Raïssa doesn't need flash to stand out. Her influence is felt in the way her teammates move, the spacing of each possession, and the confidence they exude when she's at the helm.

3. Ekah Sema (Overdose Up Station) | The Spark Plug

Explosive. Fearless. Relentless. Ekah Sema is building a reputation for bringing unmatched energy to YOUZOU Elite Basketball Championship games.

Suiting up for Overdose Up Station, Sema thrives on controlled chaos. She attacks defenders with lightning-quick crossovers, pushes the tempo in transition, and defends like every possession is personal.

Sema energy and level of confidence have lifted the Overdose squad throughout this past season. Her firepower has made her one of the most exciting guards to watch in Cameroon’s women’s basketball scene.

4. Agnès Kellam (AS Keep The Dream) | The Steady Hand

Every great team needs stability, and Agnès Kellam provides exactly that for AS Keep The Dream. She’s calm under pressure, reads the floor like a veteran, and brings a quiet authority that keeps her squad grounded. Kellam’s ability to control tempo, make good decisions, and deliver in clutch moments makes her a reliable leader. Her presence ensures that AS Keep The Dream always plays with discipline and composure  no matter the stakes. Her leadership and steadiness embody the spirit of the “Keep The Dream”

5. Célia Kegne (FAP Basketball) | The  Dynamo

F.A.P.'s backcourt dominance doesn't end with Mvogo. The veteran Célia Kegne brings the grit, intensity, and defensive edge that every championship squad needs.

Known for her on-ball pressure and relentless hustle, Kegne disrupts opposing offences and turns defence into instant offence. Her steals often lead to fast breaks, and her energy on both ends makes her indispensable to F.A.P.'s system.

Kegne's rise as a two-way threat demonstrates that great point guards not only create plays but also disrupt them on the other side of the ball. The 2025 season also saw Kegne's ability to attack the basket become a real weapon for F.A.P.

Together, Abada Mvogo, Tamko Raïssa, Ekah Sema, Agnès Kellam, and Célia Kegne represent the new face of Cameroonian women’s basketball: smart, tough, and fearless. They are proof that the point guard position isn’t just about ball-handling and passing; it’s about leadership, control, and heart.

As the YOUZOU Elite Basketball Championship Women continues to grow, these five playmakers stand at the forefront of a movement that’s putting Cameroon firmly on the map of African basketball excellence.
